EnReMilk Project

Integrated engineering approach validating reduced water and energy consumption in milk processing for wider food supply chain replication (FP7/2007-2013)

EnReMilk Summary

The EnReMilk project primarily targets a significant sector of the food industry, the dairy industry. The project's goal is to achieve substantial savings in water and energy used in dairy processing operations. The objectives include achieving at least a 20% energy saving and at least a 30% water saving compared to current performance, and ensuring these savings are replicable both in small-medium dairy farms (SMEs) and large-scale operations.

This goal will be achieved through scientific and technological research and development, either by improving existing operations or modifying them. These performance savings will be validated by conducting diagnostics and establishing reference data based on existing operations against which research activities will be validated. Simulation models and physical tests are considered for validation.

The EnReMilk approach will be validated in terms of environmental, economic, and social sustainability by recognized experts and recognized tools included in the "International Reference Life Data System cycle (ILCD)" manual.
