MODEM – Models predictius i gestió de la demanda
The MODEM project develops and validates predictive models and demand management models to implement them in the electricity, gas, and water utilities sector (service-providing infrastructures). The project focuses on the development of solutions for proactive consumers through the identification of behavior patterns and processing consumption data to generate tailored service strategies.
During the MODEM project, new technologies in measurement equipment are used, along with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, to make more efficient use of existing resources. This ensures the sustainability of the supply.
The scope of action includes the development of balance tools and loss control (energy, water, etc.) in networks, detection of non-technical losses, and fraud identification, analysis applications, investment prioritization in networks, devices, and algorithms related to smart metering for consumption disaggregation, demand response strategies and systems, and demand forecasting applications.
MODEM is a project of the RIS3CAT Utilities 4.0 Community coordinated by Naturgy, with the participation of CS2AC, the technological center of Catalonia EURECAT, and nine other companies. The community's objective is to transform the utilities sector by identifying a set of tools and solutions that allow its digitalization towards the concept of utilities 4.0 and to create an industrial fabric through the development and application of these new solutions.
CS2AC has participated in the first task, in which use cases were defined, technological challenges were identified, technologies were selected, and the technological plan was established. As a technological partner, it develops the demand prediction algorithms for both short- and long-term, establishes balance calculation methodologies, and estimates flow rates for both technical and non-technical losses.
